'Few loved music as much as Pete'

The Stone Roses’ frontman Ian Brown has paid tribute to original band member Pete Garner who has passed away at the age of 61.

At the time, Pete said he had left the Stone Roses to begin working at HMV as he didn’t feel worthy of being in the band. His death was announced last week by music publication Louder than War. It's believed he passed away after a battle with cancer. Pete played in band The Patrol, alongside Ian and John, until 1980. They later formed The Stone Roses and released their debut single in 1984. Following Pete's departure, the band released two albums before breaking up in 1996. The Stone Roses reunited for a world tour in 2012, including three homecoming gigs at Heaton Park.
