Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed the club have signed Chelsea star Ian Maatsen at a £15million discount., the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the 22-year-old’s signing is a “statement of intent” from the Midlands club.the arrival of Maatsen last week , with the Netherlands international signing for Unai Emery’s side after a successful loan with Borussia Dortmund.
the club have agreed a initial fee of £35million with Chelsea, with a further £5million payable in add-ons. Maatsen made 23 appearances for Dortmund in the second half of last season as they reached the final of the Champions League.Wyness claimed Villa fans “are going to love” watching the young defender, who can also play in various attacking roles.“This is a player who has adapted to a European style of football, it gives him options – and that’s where Emery’s strengths lie, giving himself plenty of options.
