The warning covers the entire Yorks hire region from 4pm today until 10am on Thursday, January 2nd. The latest weather warning could cause problems in North Yorks hire, where many rivers and streams have overflowed, isolating communities. The ice warning states it will result in difficult travel conditions with icy patches on roads and pavements.
However, weather experts are predicting more rain, a serious concern for communities affected by flooding. In the last 24 hours, people have been rescued from flooded cars in North Yorkshire. Trains have been cancelled due to flooded tracks in West Yorkshire, while communities are urged to prepare for flooding in 98 areas of Yorkshire. The Met Office says: 'A band of rain, sleet, and hill snow will clear southwards during Wednesday afternoon and evening. 'As skies clear in its wake, and with standing water following earlier rain in places, ice is likely to form quite quickly on untreated surfaces, leading to difficult travel conditions. Wintry showers are also likely along some north-facing coasts overnight, increasing the chance of ice in places.
