The hydroplane was on show at Samlesbury Hall on Monday morning to commemorate the fact it is 70 years since it was built at Samlesbury Engineering.Bluebird K7’s legend and infamy was sealed in January of 1967 when Donald Campbell, who was piloting the hydroplane on Coniston Water, Cumbria, died when the boat somersaulted as he tried to increase the world water speed record to more than 300mph.
A team of dedicated enthusiasts rebuilt Bluebird and it took to the water once again in 2018 on Loch Fad. A statement on the Ruskin Museum said: “ will be part of a private event that weekend and then on Monday, 7 October, she will be on display at Samlesbury Hall from 10am until 12.30pm to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of her being built.Sign up below to receive Blog Preston's email newsletter.
