I have no idea if that specifically is true, but it’s certainly a matter of record that women who were “prone to hysteria” were often banned from reading and other forms of creativity in the 19th century, lest it inflame their wombs and make their temperament worse.

Meghan’s comments to Oprah about the Little Mermaid giving up her voice to marry a prince might have been a bit twee, but it’s not an unfair comparison to make. Can we really be surprised that she ended up a bit lost, and a bit hapless, having given up the project that she loved so much, and replaced it with sheer tights and smiling?
