Helmets save lives, people - thankfully 12-year-old Poppy was wearing hers
This 12-year-old girl was left fighting for her life after being hit by a car but it could have been so much worse.Thankfully, Poppy was wearing a cycle helmet but the impact on her head fractured her skull.
She has since made a good recovery but Poppy’s mother Caroline is warning other parents to stay vigilant about their children’s safety. Ms Jackson said a neurologist believed it could have been ’10 times worse or even fatal’ had Poppy not been wearing a helmet.Poppy could have died if she hadn’t been wearing her bike helmet She was cycling with her friend Gracie Moore, 12, in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, when it happened shortly after 3pm on July 24.‘I was crying and called my dad to tell him Poppy had been in an accident with a car,’ Gracie told the Wiltshire Times.
‘Poppy was just groaning and a lady helped me and asked me to hold her head still. I gave my phone to a bystander and asked if they could call Poppy’s mum.’Brave Poppy made a good recovery Ms Jackson wrote: ‘4,000 cyclists were killed or seriously injured in 2017 and 70 per cent of these suffered serious head injuries.‘Teenagers are particularly reluctant to wear a helmet and making it law takes away this choice.
