IFA reaffirms stance on Euro 2028 to realise 'once in a lifetime opportunity'

The Irish Football Association has responded to comments from GAA President Jarlath Burns which said he believes that Casement Park will miss out on Euro 2028. Burns believes that the rate of progress at the west Belfast ground is too slow to meet UEFA deadlines, with the ground needing to be fully operational by June 2027 in order to host games for the tournament, which was awarded jointly to Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.

Speaking at the launch of the All-Ireland SHC at the Michael Cusack Centre in Carran, Co Clare yesterday Burns said he believed that that ship has now sailed. Pressed on if he genuinely believed that the opportunity to stage Euro 2028 at Casement was gone, he replied: "I do.
