It is an update on a favourite that has been on the menu for 40 years
IKEA is launching a new plant-based variation of its popular hot dog from Monday, October 16. Available at IKEA restaurants across the country, the latest addition to IKEA’s expanding plant-based menu will be sold for 85p.
The new plant-based offering joins the hot dog, which has been on the IKEA menu for over 40 years, as well as the popular IKEA plant balls and veggie dog. The new dish mimics the same sensory experience of biting into a meat-based hot dog but with rice protein, onion, apple, salt and pepper. It comes as IKEA has set plans to serve 50% plant-based meals in all in-store restaurants by 2025. Also, by this date, IKEA has pledged that 80% of main meals offered in the restaurants will be non-red meat and 80% of all packaged food offered will be plant-based.
Helene von Reis, Food Manager at IKEA said: “IKEA is driven by a vision to create a better everyday life for many people. Through the food business, we can contribute to this by offering a tasty, healthier, and more sustainable food option. We want to offer more plant-based alternatives with a lower climate impact. Choosing plant-based food often impacts climate footprint less than animal-based options.
