With the first confirmed ASF case, Treñas urged backyard hog raisers to contact the Iloilo City Veterinarian Office.
In the test results released by the Department of Agriculture , one sample from a hog found in Zone 5, Brgy. Tacas in Jaro district tested positive for ASF. “We will have to depopulate all hogs within the 500-meter radius. The animals will be buried properly,” said Treñas. “Any dead pig should be reported right away and should not be thrown in our waterways,” added Treñas.The mayor also said that slaughterhouse disinfection is beefed up while hogs are slaughtered immediately upon arrival.
Meanwhile, Treñas assured that affected hog raisers in the city will get the needed financial assistance.
