IM Men, the Issey Miyake-inspired menswear label, presented its A/W 2025 collection titled 'Fly with IM Men,' drawing inspiration from Miyake's iconic 1977 show in Kyoto. The collection showcased innovative designs using a single square of fabric transformed into jackets, shirts, and coats through intricate folding techniques.
The Issey Miyake -inspired menswear label IM Men presented its A/W 2025 collection, titled 'Fly with IM Men', at the former convent Le Réfectoire des Cordeliers in Paris . The collection draws inspiration from Miyake's legendary 1977 show in Kyoto, where models wore pieces from his A/W 1977 collection while brandishing parachute-like fabrics. IM Men, launched in 2021, aims to inherit Miyake's legacy and move it forward, remaining true to the brand's core philosophy of 'a piece of cloth'.
The collection showcased monochromatic looks initially, transitioning into a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors, with bold hues of green, purple, and yellow. Key pieces included a metallic ultrasuede bomber jacket that resembled leather but could be folded completely flat, as well as a voluminous coat crafted from perforated ultrasuede made from plant-based materials using sugar molasses and cornstarch. Designers Sen Kawahara, Yuki Itakura, and Nobutaka Kobayashi highlighted the ingenuity behind their designs, emphasizing the challenge of transforming flat pieces of cloth into intricate shapes. The show featured models undressing themselves until they were left with a single square of material, which they brandished like flags before dashing down the runway. The event was complemented by an installation by Japanese artist and designer Tokujin Yoshioka, featuring large black squares manipulated by robotic arms. The exhibition space will transform into an exploration of the collection's innovative designs, showcasing the 'design and engineering' behind five key pieces. IM Men hopes this exhibition will spark dialogues across disciplines, encouraging a deeper understanding of the possibilities of fabric and its creative potential
