A concept masterplan had been drawn up for the site next to the King Street Metrolink stop
Images have revealed how the site of Oldham’s Mecca Bingo was envisioned to be transformed into a new state-of-the-art ‘commercial quarter’.
However the council says that while the site is still potentially earmarked for redevelopment – it is not likely to come forward any time soon. “Our brief was also to incorporate a new-build 30,000 sq ft speculative office development, specifically designed for multi-tenant occupancy,” In response to queries about the status of the plans, an Oldham council spokesperson told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: “The Mecca Bingo site is earmarked as a potential future redevelopment opportunity as part of the ongoing regeneration of the town centre, but it is not envisaged it will come forward in the near future.”
