The Algerian woman landed gold at Paris 2024 with a points win over China's Yang Liu in the final of the 66kg category.
Imane Khelif won Olympic gold as she brushed aside the gender row that has overshadowed her bouts at Paris 2024. The Algerian was backed by a loud crowd at Roland Garros as she took on China's 2023 world champion Yang Liu.
Khelif defeated Liu with a unanimous 5-0 win, scooping Algeria's first ever female boxing gold in the process. Her win lef to huge celebrations in the ring and in the stands, as the Algerians in attendance went wild for Khelif, who leapt into the arms of her coach with a huge smile across her face. But the IOC, which suspended the IBA in 2019 because of concerns over its finances, governance, ethics, refereeing and judging, has strongly backed the boxers, with president Thomas Bach saying there was "never any doubt" they are women.
