The facility will get a new paint job, lobby and gym floor, as well as other improvements
Imperial Beach’s Sports Park Community Center, used in recent years as a COVID-19 testing site, is one step closer to receiving a long-needed facelift. The City Council recently awarded $2.93 million in construction contracts to make it happen: $130,000 to A. Preman Roofing, Inc. to replace the building’s roof, $255,000 to The Garland Company, Inc. for materials and $2.5 million to Loghmani & Associates Design Group, Inc. for various improvements to the facility.
Plans include replacing the concrete indoor gym floor with a wooden one that will accommodate basketball, volleyball and potentially pickleball; replacing the ventilation system; upgrading lighting, windows, security and audio systems; and adding a new lobby and office space. The building will also get its roof replaced and an entirely new paint job. Its brick wall exterior will be painted blue to be more “beach-like, more Imperial Beach,” said Foltz.
