BMW has announced that it will be using an old DTM V8 motor as a base to power its new LMDh prototype for the 2023 IMSA season.

The German manufacturer has confirmed the open secret that it has chosen to base the engine for theon the powerplant used in the M4 DTM for two seasons before a change of regulations for 2019.

It follows the naming of the car as the M Hybrid V8 in June without confirmation of any technical details, which accompanied the release of the first photographs of the car that will be raced by theBMW also evaluated the in-line four-cylinder turbo engine used in the DTM after a change in rules for 2019 and the road-based V8 turbocharged engine from the M8 GTE, which raced in both IMSA and the FIA World Endurance Championship.
