NORAD is a joint command of the US and Canada, and is tasked with aerospace warning and aerospace control for North America.

NORAD clarified that the Russia n and PRC aircraft had remained in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign airspace. NORAD , the joint command of the United States and Canada, intercepted two Chinese and two Russia n bombers which were operating near the state of Alaska in international airspace on Wednesday.

However, as per multiple reports this is the first time that a Chinese aircraft of any type has operated near North America. Russian aircraft, on the other hand, have been found flying in and around these zones multiple times in the past too. This action seems to make the warning come true, and raise concerns for US and allies. More so because while the rest of the world has majorly sidelined Russia after it began the war in Ukraine, Beijing has come closer to Moscow and its influence might be growing. The incident comes just days after the US Defense Department released the 2024 Arctic Strategy.
