It was a weekend to remember in Stockport as thousands came out to watch the Krazy Races
Until now, summer had been something of a washout. But for organisers of a free-to-attend soapbox racing derby taking place in Greater Manchester this weekend, the warmer weather was worth waiting.this morning, final tweaks were made to unique race track filled with obstacles and tight corners, and backdropped by some of the borough's most well-known landmarks - from the railway Viaduct to The Chestergate pub and Plaza theatre.
The races got underway just after 10.45am as crowds lined the streets along the race track which began up by St Peter's Square and travelled down Mersey Square and The Plaza before a grand finish down onto Chestergate. The races were opened by The Christie Charity and St Ann's Hospice as official charity partners.
Just past the finish line, opposite the air raid shelters, many picked up a bite to eat and quick drink, with options spanning everything from crepes, ice cream and bubble tea, to Thai spring rolls and noodles, halloumi fries, wraps, paella and Greek specialities such as chicken gyros and lamb kofta.
