The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has reported 'a relatively quiet' Eleventh Night
The fires, ranging from towering structures to beacons, were at an estimated 300 locations in loyalist neighbourhoods, beginning the celebrations forof July. This year marks the 334th anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne, with 18 venues holding demonstrations and processions on Friday.in terms of the number of callouts to 'bonfire related' incidents they received this year, down 25% on 2023. Between 6pm and 2am, NIFRS received 109 emergency 999 calls.
“I would like to thank our Firefighters, Regional Control Centre Personnel and Support Employees involved in the operational response tonight and commend those involved in the planning preparations including our multi-agency partners. I am encouraging everyone to follow our safety advice across the weekend to help keep themselves and their loved ones safe.”
This year, after two separate measurements were taken by two different survey firms, it has been confirmed that the Craigyhill bonfire stands at just over 205 ft,. The bonfire was also adorned with an Irish tricolour flag and a banner reading “Saoirse don Phalaistin” – an Irish phrase for Freedom for Palestine.
