'Wow, the noise is incredible'
US Air Force planes were heard rumbling over parts of north Manchester and Bury on Thursday as they swooped low overhead.
According to the US Air Force website, the tiltrotor aircraft is used to conduct long-range infiltration, exfiltration and resupply missions for special operations forces. The planes later landed at Manchester’s Barton Aerodrome in Barton upon Irwell, Salford. One dramatic clip shows the two planes flying over Whitefield shortly before 7pm on Thursday. It is thought the aircraft jetted off from Barton Aerodrome.
Video footage shared in groups by aviation enthusiasts showed the aircraft departing Barton Aerodrome at around 8pm, as one person commented: "Wow, the noise is incredible."
