India's Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully docks a pair of satellites, making India the fourth nation to achieve this feat.

India 's Space Research Organisation ( ISRO ) has achieved a significant milestone in space exploration by successfully docking a pair of satellites. This accomplishment makes India the fourth nation globally to master this complex maneuver, joining the ranks of the United States, China, and Russia. The Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX), launched on December 30, 2024, involved two satellites equipped with docking hardware.

Following their separation after launch, one satellite was designated as the target, while the other served as the chaser. The mission objective was to have the satellites reunite and establish a power transfer, ultimately enabling them to be controlled as a single entity.ISRO's meticulous planning and execution culminated in the successful docking after several attempts. Between January 7th and 15th, ISRO made three attempts to dock the satellites. The first attempt was postponed due to the need to revise abort procedures, while the second was abandoned after one of the satellites drifted further than anticipated. The third attempt saw the orbiting machines come within 15 meters and then 3 meters of each other. However, ISRO decided to pause the docking process to verify the quality of sensor data, subsequently separating the satellites before resuming the final approach.
