Indian farmers are protesting in the Indian capital to press their demand for new legislation that would guarantee minimum profitable prices for their crops. They came in trains and buses instead of their tractors, which authorities had blocked from reaching New Delhi by barricading highways.

The rally, organized by the United Farmers Front, was held at Ramlila Ground, which is used for religious festivals, major political meetings and entertainment events. Thousands of farmers have been protesting separately in Shambhu, a town some 200 kilometers from the capital, since Feb. 13. Haryana police said 12 officers were injured after protesters attacked them with sticks and pelted them with stones.
