Rohitash Kumar, 25, was declared dead at a hospital in India and sent for cremation without a proper post-mortem examination. He was saved at the last moment when witnesses noticed him moving on the funeral pyre.

An India n man, Rohitash Kumar, was almost cremated alive after being mistakenly pronounced dead. The 25-year-old, who had speaking and hearing difficulties, was admitted to a hospital in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, on Thursday after falling ill. Doctors performed CPR but reported his heart rate as flatlined on an electrocardiogram. He was declared dead on arrival and sent directly to the mortuary. From there, he was placed on a funeral pyre without a post-mortem examination.

It was only moments before the pyre was lit that witnesses noticed Kumar moving, saving him from an untimely death. A witness at the crematorium described the situation as a 'miracle,' stating Kumar was 'breathing and alive' despite being declared dead. An initial investigation revealed that doctors prepared a post-mortem report without actually conducting the examination, and Kumar's body was sent for cremation based on this flawed report. The chief medical officer of Jhunjhunu district hospital, D. Singh, confirmed that a doctor 'prepared the postmortem report without actually doing the postmortem, and the body was then sent for cremation,' while the district collector, Ramavatar Meena, stated the post-mortem was done 'in papers only.
