prison officers were killed and three seriously injured after gunmen attacked a convoy transporting an inmate known as The Fly, who is now on the run.
The van was returning to Evreux prison after a court hearing in Rouen when it was ambushed at the Incarville toll booth on the A154 motorway in Val-de-Reuil. Unconfirmed reports by the French media said the prisoner and attackers escaped in a car later found burnt out nearby.The escaped prisoner has been named by Associated Press as Mohamed Amra.He was also under investigation for a kidnapping and homicide case in Marseille, according to public prosecutor Laure Beccuau.The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, said “everything is being done” to find the attackers.
“Everything is being done to find the perpetrators of this crime so that justice can be done in the name of the French people.France’s Justice Minister, Eric Dupond-Moretti, said the accomplices used “heavy weaponry” to attack the prison van.
