The incident happened on Saturday when the officer was doing a routine check in a cellblock.
Limestone County officials say an inmate assaulted a corrections officer this weekend, attempting to choke him with a microphone cord as he tried to radio for help.An officer was carrying out a routine check in a cellblock when inmate Nathan Harville attacked him, according to the sheriff’s office.
Harville allegedly pushed the officer into an open cell and began striking him in the face. Harville attempted to gain control of the officer’s radio, ultimately taking his microphone cord and attempting to choke him.The officer, whose name was not released, was treated at Athens Limestone Hospital for a facial cut resulting in 10 stitches and other lacerations of the head and arm.
According to the sheriff’s office, Harville has been incarcerated in the Limestone County jail for 670 days, awaiting trial on a felony distribution of controlled substance charge.
