Taymouth Castle has received a £100-million restoration from United States tequila tycoon and friend of George Clooney Michael Meldman, and the results are incredible.
Taymouth Castle is situated along the banks of Loch Tay in Perth and Kinross. It has been restored to how "it looked 1842 when Queen Victoria came to visit".
The property was sold in 1922 by the last of the Campbells of Breadalbane due to gambling debts. It was later used as a Polish wartime hospital, as well as a civil defence training camp and a hotel. Photographs of the castle's interior show the restored grand hallway that rises up more than 80 feet as you enter. Approximately 30 gallons of light cream paint were needed, while painting took 10 months.
Among the restored pieces in the castle was a severely damaged hand-painted ceiling in the drawing room. The ceiling features knights and nobles of the clan. Artisans and tradespeople have spent around three years working on the castle. The 16th-century renaissance panels were preserved in the Banner Room, while outside repairs were done by matching the original locally sourced green mica schist.
