One Direction fans have been yearning for a reunion of the beloved boyband for years, but sadly, it's grief rather than joy that finally brought them back together. Harry Styles , Niall Horan , Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik have today paid their respects to bandmate Liam Payne at his private funeral.
On March 25, 2015, just six days after their final performance as a five-man band, Zayn shocked the pop world by announcing his departure from One Direction. In a heartfelt statement, Zayn apologised to fans, saying: "I'd like to apologise to the fans if I've let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.
"But for him to get to a point where, you know, he can't step on a stage? It's a lot. I mean, he's doing great. His streaming numbers are ridiculous, but I do think he misses out on the performance side a bit, you know. He can't seem to get past that part. We all have it." In a touching personal message, the 31 year old Pillowtalk singer reflected on the moments he clashed with his "opinionated" bandmate Liam, confessing his secret admiration for him. Speaking directly to Liam, Zayn posted: "I was always happy to know, no matter what happened on stage we could always rely on you to know which way to steer the ship next.
He expressed: "We got to live out our wildest dreams together and I will cherish every moment we had forever. The bond and friendship we had doesn't happen often in a lifetime.
