'This is an overhaul of everything - it’s a different attitude'
One of Manchester’s most loved sushi restaurants has just opened its fifth venue which is now hailed as the biggest sushi bar in the north.
The huge 225–cover restaurant comes equipped with a new Tokyo 7 cocktail bar, a suntrap outdoor terrace and a show-stopping sushi bar which sits confidently in the centre of the venue below a collection of quaint paper lanterns emblazoned with the handprinted Unagi logo. “I think Unagi is so well loved because it's giving people what they want,” Jo adds. "They want sushi and great quality sushi at that. What we find is that people are willing to pay a decent price if it’s really good quality and if the space is right.”
And take over it has. With renovations taking just two and a half weeks to complete, gone are the dimly-lit interiors and replaced with a modern and vibrant setting that comes to life with colourful décor, comfy seating and some 32 effects lightings that give it ‘that extra feel’. There are also a wide range of side dishes, like edamame, crispy squid, spring rolls, crispy fish tacos, and salt and pepper chicken wings. Bao buns, featuring crispy chicken or pulled pork, are also firm favourites.
The Tokyo 7 concept, which is new for the Salford Quays restaurant, also offers a range of new and innovative cocktails, as well as Japanese spirits, sakes, and beers to enjoy.
