BREAKING: The Home Office confirmed a floating barge will be used to accommodate 500 asylum seekers in the 'coming months.'
A three-storey barracks barge will now be the temporary home for asylum seekers arriving on British shores, the Government has confirmed.confirmed that the Bibby Stockholm, a large block of flats stacked on a floating platform, has been leased for 18 months.from owners Bibby Maritime.The deal was signed earlier today by the Home Office to charter the 91-metre ship docked in Portland, Dorset.
It will be the first vessel used in deeply controversial plans to reduce hotels used to house asylum seekers. The plans have been denounced by international rights organisations, refugee advocacy groups and politicians on both sides. ‘With 500 migrants or more dumped here, I cannot see this is a sensible move, so for those reasons and many others I reject it,’ he said.
