Bored of Dating Apps is trying to create a 'healthier, slower, kinder' approach to dating

Or would you prefer to be introduced to new faces at smaller, more intimate events, like group hikes, supper clubs, sip and paint nights, cinema or yoga? Introducing Bored of Dating Apps – or BODA as it’s affectionately known by regulars.

"I’ve got very emotional - happy emotional - by the amount of people who come to our socials on their own. Around 95% of our attendees rock up solo. They’ve said any nerves they felt before about walking in on their own were outweighed by the benefit to their mental health. Dating apps have made it easier than before to get a date but even harder to get a connection. That tangible felt sense of meeting someone and there’s an actual spark. Experienced through a screen it’s harder, if not impossible. Most people want connection right now, not another throwaway date and days spent glued to their phones endlessly swiping.

She adds: “To be reaching our first birthday is fantastic. I’m especially excited because so many people have grown connected through BODA – friendships as well as romantic relationships. Seeing all of this unfold and also becoming friends with many regulars myself is an amazing feeling, knowing we are offering something not only different but for which there is this ongoing need.

"As BODA grows, we’re hopeful to do more specialised events, like 'over 50s'. At the moment, our socials are inclusive get-togethers for anyone who shares the same heart of wanting to rebel against a lot of the fickle and flighty behaviour and agenda that the modern dating climate and the apps have pushed and championed over the last few years.

"It isn’t this fast and furious way of dating we’ve got used to the last few years with the apps, but it’s an intentional place for people who collectively share the same heart of wanting to date differently. Healthier. Slower. Kinder."Jess: "We have a few boundaries on the night to maintain the integrity of BODA socials. You have to be single. We ask people not to ghost people afterwards.
