Her husband Simon told her to get out of Ukraine and not return but the midwife has since crossed into the country seven times, once for as long as four months, and is there again as the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion approaches. Her passion for helping others is so infectious Mr Warrington has now joined her on her latest visit.

Ms Warrington has been delivering vital care, medicines and equipment to help mothers and babies in Ukraine Some women have no idea when they will give birth or are worried because they have no clue about the health or growth of their babies. Ms Warrington supports mothers in Ukraine by providing antenatal and postnatal care in makeshift maternity units rising rate of premature births has been linked to the conflictDr Bulavinova said she had spoken to the heads of perinatal care centres in several regions who all confirmed they had seen an up to 15 per cent rise in premature births.

“They’re very highly portable, and they’re really good for that initial stage if you’ve got a baby… to sort of prevent babies going to neonatal,” she said.One of the reasons Ms Warrington, who plans to set up a primary care clinic in Ukraine, is so determined to deliver donations directly is because of the fraud she has witnessed.

She added: “We’ve had a bad experience. I’ve worked with a guy in a charity, who claimed he was a doctor. He was not a doctor. He was bogus. He was fake.”“This guy was examining women. That’s abuse. The guy was not a doctor.During air raids alerts and attacks, staff face the tough choice of transporting vulnerable patients underground into basements or staying with them on wards.
