I write about the latest PC hardware from the likes of AMD, Intel and Nvidia, including launches of the latest graphics card processors with my own benchmarks as well as covering the latest news and trends

If you're a PC enthusiast you're probably aware of the stability issues surrounding Intel's 13th and 14th Gen processors, which have come to a head recently with the discovery of swathes of crash reports in online game servers. Intel has finally responded to these reports and will be issuing a microcode fix via motherboard BIOS updates some time in August.with the problems themselves stemming back to at least 2023.

However, the newer issue is related to stability issues linked to exposure to elevated voltages. We've been here before with motherboard manufacturers seeking to differentiate themselves by applying tweaks to motherboards to get processors to run faster on their products so they can top performance charts.

The fix won't be available till August, but for now you can update your motherboard's BIOS to apply a stop-gap measure via another microcode update to force certain features to stay within Intel limits. This may see a small decrease in performance, but is necessary to ensure stability as no one wants to see crashes in games and other applications. According to Intel, the August microcode fix should not see any performance decreases.

Still, at least a proper fix is inbound so make sure you monitor the product page for your motherboard over the next month and apply the new BIOS with microcode fix when it lands next month. Hopefully that will be the end of the stability saga. I'll be reviewing AMD and Intel's new CPUs when they land so don't forget to follow me here on Forbes,Our community is about connecting people through open and thoughtful conversations.
