Following the launch of Battlemage, Intel's first discrete GPU, the company is feeling increasingly confident about its next-generation GPU, codenamed Celestial. The success of the integrated Xe2 architecture in Lunar Lake has provided a solid foundation for future development.
Intel 's initial foray into discrete GPU s, the Battlemage series, launched late last year. While generally well-received, it faced performance hiccups in certain titles during testing. Now, Intel is optimistic about its successor, codenamed Celestial . During an interview at a tech show, Jim Johnson, SVP of Intel 's Client Computing Group and GM, Client Business Group, stated that their confidence in the third-generation GPU stems from the successful integrated implementation with Lunar Lake .
Intel opted to initially launch the Xe2 architecture, powering Battlemage, as an integrated solution within Lunar Lake. This strategic move aimed to refine software and driver performance before releasing discrete cards. Building upon this foundation, Intel believes the development of future hardware will be significantly aided. Although Battlemage encountered some driver issues in certain games, such as Homeworld 3, it was largely seen as a substantial improvement over Alchemist. Intel considers this integrated-first approach a success
