The prime minister says it 'isn't good enough' for Israel to dismiss as an accident an air strike that killed seven aid workers, including one Australian, calling for the investigation to be made public on its completion.
The prime minister says Israel cannot dismiss an air strike that killed several aid workers, including an Australian, as an accident during warIsrael says preliminary findings indicated the aid worker convoy was misidentified, but insiders have disputed that account
"The Israeli defence force have accepted their responsibility for this tragic event, we need to have accountability for how it's occurred," Mr Albanese said. "I have demanded full accountability for what has occurred, they have committed to a full and proper investigation," the prime minister said. But defence sources have told Israeli media that the air strike occurred as a result of a commander disobeying direct orders.
"I'm not in a position to be able to assess the veracity of those allegations — they are very serious, the situation is tragic," he told the ABC."We saw an attack from Hamas that started this off, which was truly extraordinary, and these are the consequences of these sorts of actions." Since October, at least 196 humanitarian workers have been killed in Gaza. This is how organisations try communicate with authorities to help ensure the safety of their staff.
