An investigation into the Beijing Half Marathon has been launched after allegations that China’s He Jie was deliberately allowed to win the race by three African runners. He crossed the line first on Sunday in a time of 1:03:44, one second ahead of the trio of other athletes, who all tied for second place.
Half marathon under investigation over questionable race finish. Video of the final moments of the race appears to show Kenyan runners Robert Keter and Willy Mnangat, plus Ethiopia’s Dejene Hailu, gesturing He towards the finish line and slowing down to wave the Chinese runner through. But Mnangat claims the trio of runners-up were only there as pacemakers.
