The pilot died after his aircraft landed in a crop field near Darlton Airfield
A report is being finalised after a year-long investigation looking at how a pilot in his 70s died in a Nottinghamshire plane crash. Emergency services were called to a crop field close to Darlton Airfield, near Retford , just before 12.30pm on July 26, 2023.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service soon confirmed that a pilot in his 70s had died in a crash at the crop field, with nobody else having been onboard the plane at the time. Police were seen searching the crash site and the Air Accident Investigation Branch immediately sent teams to the area. The AAIB now says a report will soon be published looking at how the incident occurred. Its report it now at consultation stage, meaning the investigation is almost complete and the draft version of the report has been shared with all those involved, with the consultation having to last at least 28 days by law.
The AAIB confirmed that the plane involved was a Eurofox, manufactured in Slovakia by Aeropro. The manufacturer's website says the two-seat aircraft has a top speed of 208 kilometres an hour.
