In an address to worshippers in the southeastern Iranian province of Kerman, he said the desecration insulted the "most valuable divine book" and hurt the feelings of 2 billion Muslims, which global Muslim community will not condone.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi speaks at a press conference in Tehran, Iran, on Aug. 29, 2022. Raisi said on Monday Iran did not seek to develop nuclear weapons but would employ nuclear technology for civilian purposes. In Stockholm on Wednesday, a Swedish citizen said to be of Iraqi origin, tore up a copy of the Quran and burned it in front of a mosque during a demonstration authorized by the Swedish authorities, which sparked furious reactions from Muslims across the world.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Thursday summoned Sweden's charge d'affaires in Tehran and protested the "sacrilegious" act. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani also on Thursday strongly condemned Sweden for permitting the burning of the Quran.
