Massachusetts state police pulled an Irish citizen off a plane departing Logan International Airport and arrested him Saturday evening, a day after they say he raped a woman while on vacation in Boston.
Terrence Crosbie, 37, of Dublin was charged with rape and held on $100,000 bail, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden's office. A Boston Municipal Court judge also ordered Crosbie to remain in the state and confiscated his passport. Prosecutors said a woman at Massachusetts General Hospital told Boston police on Friday that she was sexually assaulted by a man at the Omni Parker House earlier that morning. Police then pulled surveillance video from the hotel and The Black Rose bar, where both Crosbie and the victim has been, they said.
Crosbie, a firefighter in Dublin, had come to Boston on vacation and initially planned to return home on Tuesday, according to Hayden's office. After police interviewed him on Saturday, they said, he booked a 10:10 p.m. flight back to Ireland. While at Logan, he boarded an even earlier flight, around 7 p.m., which had already pulled away from the gate when state police came looking for him.
"I’m grateful for the alertness of police in finding out that Mr. Crosbie was attempting to leave the country before he could be held accountable for his actions," Hayden said in a statement. If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, you can call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at
