The agency said that the move will allow some groups to have their tax filing deadlines extended.
The Internal Revenue Services has given some taxpayers more time to file their taxes this year, including those affected by the Hamas attack in Israel and individuals and businesses impacted by recent storms in Rhode Island and Maine.'The IRS provided relief to taxpayers who, due to the terrorist attacks, may be unable to meet a tax-filing or tax-payment obligation, or may be unable to perform other time-sensitive tax-related actions,' the tax agency said in a statement.
'That's because the IRS has automatically identified and provided relief to these taxpayers, based on addresses shown on previously filed returns.'In Rhode Island, the relief will extend to those who were impacted by storms and floods that hit the area on December 17, 2023, and on January 9, 2024.'These taxpayers now have until July 15, 2024, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments,' the agency said in a statement.
