Newspaper headlines: Is PM 'in retreat' or preparing a 'cunning plan'?
Many of the front pages consider Boris Johnson's next moves after MPs and Lords approved a bill to extend the Brexit deadline and avoid a no-deal Brexit. The Daily Telegraph reports the prime minister plans to legally"sabotage" the extension and believes Monday's vote on calling a general election is the"last chance" to avert no-deal.But the Times has a different take on Mr Johnson's position, saying he is"in retreat".
"Britain is still backing Boris", says the Daily Express headline. A poll for the paper says he is"the best man to deliver Brexit", despite what the paper describes as a constitutional crisis. The prime minister's visit to Ireland on Monday is the focus of the Financial Times' lead story. The paper says Ireland's taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, has warned Mr Johnson not to expect a"breakthrough" and said the EU does not agree that talks are making progress.
