When we talk about age gaps, what we’re often talking about, in subtext, is sex.
I spent last week in Paris, thinking I was pregnant. My period was a week late, my breasts ached, I couldthings in my abdomen. But here’s the joke. The great joke handed down from Eve for millennia; the symptoms for pregnancy, pre-menstrual syndrome and the, the same. As a woman, it is sometimes impossible to tell if what you’re experiencing is pregnancy or, in fact, its opposite.
If I had been pregnant, there would have been a six-year age gap between my children. Is that big? Is it noteworthy? Would people have opinions? Well of course they would. People have opinions on age gaps, both large and small. Whenin a red bustier and visible baby bump this month, the internet lit up with discussion about her being pregnant again, nine months after giving birth to her first child with A$AP Rocky. The first time I wrote that sentence, I put “just nine months after giving birth”.
