India's Ishpreet Singh Chadha produced a stunning upset at the Welsh Open , defeating defending champion Gary Wilson in the first round. Chadha displayed remarkable composure, holding his nerve in the deciding frame to secure a place in the last 32 at Venue Cymru in Llandudno. Wilson, who admitted to feeling unwell after the match, recovered from a 2-1 deficit to lead 3-2, but Chadha rallied in the final two frames, clearing up to claim victory. 'It feels great,' Chadha said.

'I think he (Wilson) wasn't on it from the start of the game and then went berserk when he was down, that caught me offguard. He's always a tough player to beat, I am just happy to get through.'Meanwhile, former Welsh Open champions Mark Williams and Mark Selby cruised into the second round with impressive displays. Williams, a three-time world champion, made a remarkable three century breaks in his 4-1 victory over Austria's Florian Nuessle. Selby, on the other hand, compiled a break of 141 en route to a 4-2 win against English compatriot Hayden Pinhey. Williams, despite his dominant performance, downplayed his chances of becoming the first Welsh winner since his 1999 triumph. 'Surprising more than anything, three centuries in a best of seven doesn't happen to me that often,' he admitted. 'If I haven't won it for the past 26 years, I don't think I'm going to win it on the 27th. I'll try my best, but we haven't had a Welsh winner before, only myself, it's a shame really, it's just how tough the game is.'Neil Robertson, the 2019 champion, also secured his place in the next round after a tense encounter against Mark Davis. Robertson, known for his tenacity, weathered the storm and showed his class in the deciding frame to emerge victorious. 'You just have to hang in there and accept that it's not going to be free flowing and free scoring,' he said. 'It was a game of stick in there, play good safety, pot the important balls when they come up and that's what I did.' Other notable results saw Welshman Jamie Jones edge out China's Si Jiahui 4-2, while compatriot Dominic Dale, a quarter-finalist last year, fell to a 4-2 defeat against China's Pang Junxu. In an all-England clash, Robbie Williams dominated former champion Stuart Bingham, winning 4-0. Welshman Jackson Page overcame England's Jimmy Robertson 4-2, and Scotland's Stephen Maguire defeated China's Xu Si by the same scoreline.
