Islamic insurgents have taken control of half of Syria 's city of Aleppo following a recent offensive, according to the Syria n Observatory for Human Rights. Rami Abdul Rahman, the director of the Syria n Observatory for Human Rights, reported that the area is now under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and allied factions, with no resistance from regime forces.
At least 277 people have been killed in the fighting, including 28 civilians, making it the deadliest between rebels and pro-government forces in Syria in years. Local media reported that insurgents have imposed a curfew in parts of Aleppo to secure the area. This is the first major offensive in Aleppo since 2016, when government forces, with support from Russia, Iran, and allied groups, had expelled rebels from the eastern neighborhoods of the city
