Civilians and fighters are streaming out of the last pocket of militant-held territory.
Forces are preparing for a ‘final assault’ against Islamic State jihadists who are hunkering down for a desperate last stand.
In the meantime, civilians and surrendering fighters are arriving in droves at a nearby screening point, which is controlled by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces . In the last week around 5,000 men, women and children have been evacuated to the makeshift camp in Baghouz.According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, some 50,000 people have streamed out of the town since December.Government forces are helping civilians to leave the area ahead of a final push
‘We want the evacuation operations to finish as soon as possible so we can move to the next phase: an assault or the surrender.The Kurdish-run camp of Al-Hol, near to Baghouz, is now completely overwhelmed with new arrivals.after receiving death threats from fellow jihadists.
