A ban on the importation of livestock to the Isle of Man will remain in place amid new cases of the bluetongue virus in the UK, the government's chief vet has said.following an initial outbreak of the virus, which was the first since 2007.
Four cases of bluetongue, which can cause infertility and breeding problems in animals and can be fatal, were confirmed in Norfolk and Suffolk this week.and livestock transportation around affected farms has been halted. Dr Beckett said it was important for farmers to "monitor their animals frequently for signs such as lameness, lesions in and around the mouth, and a loss of appetite" and report any concerns to the department "immediately".
