An agreement brokered late Tuesday requires Hezbollah to withdraw from southern Lebanon and calls for Israeli troops to return to their side of the border. The deal offers both sides an opportunity to end hostilities that have displaced over a million people and resulted in thousands of casualties. However, it does not address the ongoing war in Gaza.

The ceasefire offers relief to both sides, giving Israel's overstretched army a break and allowing Hezbollah leaders to tout the group's effectiveness in holding their ground despite Israel's massive advantage in weaponry.
