A video has appeared online claiming to show Hamas fighters capturing and beating Israelis. The footage was released on a Telegram channel affiliated by the Hamas militant group. Sky News has geo-located the clip to the Erez checkpoint by the Gaza border. On a wall in the background, a sign can be seen, which translates to 'welcome to the coordination office'. Such offices are part of the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories or COGAT.
This is a branch of the Israeli Ministry of Defence and engages in coordinating between the Israeli government, Israeli Defence Forces, international groups and the Palestinian Authority.It describes its work as implementing the government's civilian policy within the territories of Judea and Samaria and towards the Gaza Strip. Major General Ghasan Alyan made this message on their Twitter a few hours ago.
