A Palestinian health minister says 12 people have died at al Shifa hospital in Gaza due to a lack of electricity and medical supplies. Meanwhile, a UN peacekeeper has been shot in Lebanon near the Israeli border.
Israel's prime minister has said there 'could be' an agreement to free hostages released by Hamas. Speaking to NBC News' Meet The Press programme, Benjamin Netanyahu said a 'great deal' is known about the location of the hostages - but he would not reveal any further details. He said Israel was not close to a deal until his forces began their ground operation in Gaza. Some 239 hostages are believed to be trapped in the Palestinian enclave.
'However, in the last few moments, Hamas has claimed all talks regarding hostages have been suspended due to the situation at al Shifa hospital, a Palestinian official told Reuters. The hospital has come under intense fire as fighting in the area surrounding it intensifies. In his wide ranging interview, Mr Netanyahu also said Israel will not agree to a ceasefire, unless all the hostages are released.
