Benjamin Netanyahu has posted three graphic images of dead babies on the official Twitter account of the Israeli prime minister. Meanwhile, the Israelis have said Gaza will not be supplied with any electricity, water or fuel until hostages are freed.
White phosphorus has been used by Israel in Gaza and Lebanon, the Human Rights Watch has said. Upon contact, the weapon can burn people, thermally and chemically, it said. The organisation said it has verified videos taken in Lebanon and Gaza on 10 and 11 October, respectively, showing multiple airbursts of artillery-fired white phosphorus over the Gaza City port and two rural locations along the Israel-Lebanon border.
It said the weapon's use 'violates the international humanitarian law prohibition on putting civilians at unnecessary risk'. 'Any time that white phosphorus is used in crowded civilian areas, it poses a high risk of excruciating burns and lifelong suffering,' said Lama Fakih, Middle East and North Africa director at HRW.
