Israel's huge attack on southern suburbs of Beirut has deserted streets around the city on what's normally a busy Friday night.The airstrikes targeted Hezbollah's command centre - Israel said - which is under residential buildings in Dahieh, a densely-populated area controlled by the militant group.Our special correspondent Alex Crawford is in the Lebanese capital and managed to catch up with the few still remaining outdoors.
'A large plume of black smoke is still visible over the city, even in the dark, she added, while the hospitals are 'strangely quiet' too, with a couple of ambulances going in and out.Fire engines are also making their way to the scene of the attack, but the 'overriding impression is just how empty it is'.'This is an area which would normally be packed on a Friday night,' Crawford said.
