He specifically targeted a house with an attached garage and no security measures, likely for easier escape. Chittenden County, Vermont State's Attorney T.J. Donovan shared that Keyes confessed to authorities in Alaska about breaking into the Curriers' home and executing a 'blitz attack' while they slept. He claimed to have tied up the Curriers before taking them to an abandoned farmhouse where he shot Bill Currier after he became unruly. Lorraine Currier briefly managed to escape, but Keyes caught up with her, tackled her, sexually assaulted her, and ultimately strangled her to death. Donovan expressed his conviction that Keyes is the killer, citing jailhouse confessions that included specific details about the Curriers' home and garage contents, never previously disclosed. FBI search teams also recovered a handgun stolen from the Curriers' house, discarded in a Parishville, New York reservoir, exactly as Keyes had indicated. The gun used to kill Bill Currier was also recovered from the water. Donovan stated that Keyes concealed the bodies in garbage bags at the vacant farmhouse, covered with debris. Despite an extensive landfill search in Coventry, Vermont earlier this year, the Curriers' remains have not been found.
