President Joe Biden will visit the region this week with the issue of getting aid into Gaza at the top of his agenda.

President Joe Biden will visit the region this week with the issue of getting aid into Gaza at the top of his agendaHundreds of tons of life-saving humanitarian aid designated for stranded people in Gaza is stuck at the Rafah-crossing that links the territory to Egypt at its southern border.

CNN reported that United Nations trucks were also seen moving fuel inside of Gaza on Monday. 'This is fuel that already existed in Gaza and UNRWA transferred it from very close to the borders and into GAZA City where it's going to health providers,' aid worker Juliette Touma told the network. Touma said that since Hamas barbaric assault on Israel on October 7, Gaza has been without any humanitarian aid. The Rafah-crossing remains closed as does the Kerem Shalom crossing which links the territory to Israel.

'There is an urgent need to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian civilians in Gaza,' Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry told reporters, adding that talks with Israel had not been fruitful. 'Going to Israel shows how important this is to the presidency, the US and, frankly, our allies across the world as well,' Petraeus said.

In an interview with the BBC, former CIA director and retired US general David Petraeus said that Biden's visit so early into the conflict shows 'how serious this is' The Israeli strikes have killed at least 2,778 people and wounded 9,700 others in Gaza, according to the Health Ministry there. The strikes have not stopped Hamas militants from continuing to attack Israel with rockets launched from Gaza.

Mediators were trying to reach a ceasefire to open the border, which shut down last week after Israeli air strikes. An agreement appeared to have been reached on Monday, but Israel denied reports of a ceasefire in Rafah, which would be needed to open the gates. On Tuesday morning, they were still closed.

In Gaza, hospitals were on the verge of losing electricity, threatening the lives of thousands of patients, and hundreds of thousands of Palestinians displaced from their homes searched for bread.
